How we increased parcels delivered per hour by 31 %, increased parcels delivered per mile driven by 19% and reduced the overall miles driven by 23%

Overview

Once we had successfully delivered the Sort & Load trial we wanted to prove that the rudimentary parcel ordering developed could yield time and mileage savings on the road, with the understanding that further enhancement and refinement could lead to even greater savings.

The trial

Utilising the same solution as developed for Sort and Load, a trial was designed to demonstrate the reduction in miles driven and time taken to fulfil delivery rounds by following the routing generated.

4 experienced drivers were asked to take on runs that they were unfamiliar with. With the aid of the MVP they delivered these runs over the period of a week.

The following week the same 4 drivers were asked to repeat the previous week’s runs. They delivered leaflets to these addresses and waited at each premises to replicate an actual parcel delivery. On this occasion they had to carry out the deliveries without the help of the MVP.

The Results

We were delighted by the results as our test drivers had considerable experience and local knowledge, yet still we delivered double digit improvements in productivity and time/miles driven savings. The impact on inexperienced drivers or those new to routes could be vast.
